| Abstract: | The aim of this study was to determine the effect of juvenile size on the culture of Sepia pharaonic. A single factor test was used to analyze the data. A total of three groups with different sizes (mantle length (4.09±0.15), (5.25±0.48) and (6.16±0.19)cm) were used in the current experiment. The results showed that the food intake increased in 3 size groups and the feed conversion ratio decreased from 8.00±1.01 to 3.74±0.35 with culturing. The growth rate of cuttlefish increased first, reaching the maximum mantle length of approximately and subsequently reduced by 4%. The survival of juvenile cuttlefish for 3 size groups after having been cultured for 30days were (88.50±0.88)%, (92.00±0.60)%, and (93.83±0.34)% respectively. The average daily weight gain and survival of large-size cuttlefish were significantly greater (P<0.05) than those of the small-size group. These results suggested that the optimum mantle length of juvenile would be , in order to obtain a rapid growth and high survival of S. pharaonis during culture. |
